PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a subset of the synthetic organic chemicals known as chlorinated hydrocarbons.  PCBs are known to cause chronic reproductive effects, gastric disorders, and skin lesions in laboratory animals.  Although Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest Division owns, operates, and maintains the electrical distribution system throughout the installation, the PCB Program Manager oversees the management of “in-use” PCB transformers, switches, and oil fuse cutouts (OFC) equipment and the accumulation, storage, and disposal of PCB related equipment and/or waste.

Responsibilities

The Compliance Division is the point of contact for the Air Station PCB Management Program.  Naval Facilities Southwest is responsible for the maintenance and inspection of PCB containing equipment, and provides the Air Station with the Annual Elimination Plan and Annual PCB log.  MCAS Miramar has been considered "PCB Free" since 2018, when the last of PCB containing equipment was removed from service and properly disposed.

As part of our commitment, all projects, planning and POA&Ms are tracked, followed and resolved using the Marine Corps' latest online tracking system.
