Miramar updates living quarters

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar has started a project slated to take approximately two years to tear down the old base housing and build new housing in its place.

“We have partnered with Lincoln Military Housing to build a total of 77 new housing units for the Marines and sailors here,” said Lesa Kai Johnson, project executive, Clark Realty Builders. “Two of the units will be completely handicap accessible as well.”

The new housing developments will also have new recreation features such as pools and club houses in the junior enlisted, senior enlisted and officer developments as well as a basketball court in the officer community.

Clark Realty Military Housing is replacing the military’s inventory of obsolete and inadequate housing with the safe, comfortable homes service members and their families deserve.

“Clark has been doing the majority of the housing in the San Diego area,” said Johnson. “Everyone seems to be quite pleased with what we do and how we do it.”

After the construction is complete, Lincoln will take over managing the properties for the military tenants.

Lincoln’s main mission is to provide military families with exemplary service in a quality home environment.  The goal is to be the home provider of choice for military families.
They strive to enrich the lives of service members by creating vibrant neighborhoods, attractive homes, and a variety of services and amenities to provide the perfect setting for military families to live the American dream.

Understanding how hard it is for families with deployed Marines and sailors to survive and function, Lincoln will be taking care of everything from burnt-out light bulbs to mowing the lawn.

“We will take care of the general upkeep of the homes,” said Monica Jacobs, assistant manager, Lincoln Military Housing. “Our goal is to make the service members and their families as comfortable as possible.”

Some of the new features of the communities will be new charcoal grills in the park areas as well as stainless steel gas grills in the pool areas. The homes will come with all new appliances such as built in microwaves, new washers and dryers, and new refrigerators.

“As a former wife of a service member, I know how hard it can be for a family to survive during a spouse’s deployment,” said Jacobs. “ That is why I think everyone can be thankful for the services that Lincoln provides for our service members.”

POLICY

The most important starting point for an EMS* is the development of an environmental policy. ISO14001 requires local governments to implement their own environmental policy. The environmental policy acts as a basis for the environmental management system.

PLANNING

ISO14001 requires that an environmental management system is planned properly. It requires the organization to consider the following carefully: Environmental Aspects; Legal and Other Aspects; Objectives and Targets; and an Environmental Management Program.

IMPLEMENTATION

The two requirements for implementation of an EMS is to define, document, and communicate roles, responsibilities and authorities, and to allocate the resources needed to implement and control the EMS.

CHECKING

The key requirement in this EMS step is to regularly monitor and measure key characteristics of activities and operations that could have a significant impact on the environment. Changes to EMS procedures may become necessary in order to deal with nonconformances with the EMS, with mitigating environmental impacts, or corrective and preventive action.

REVIEW

The management review process ensure that information is collected to enable management to carry out proper review. Top management review the need for changes to policy, objectives and targets, and ensure that a commitment to continual improvement is being demonstrated.
