MIRA MESA, Calif. -- Throughout San Diego County there are more than 15 dog parks and beaches for man and his best friend to socialize and exercise with minimal risks.
The parks vary from off-leash beaches to fenced in pens with turfed areas for the dogs to run and enjoy the San Diego sun.
It’s important to take your dogs to the park, explained Jennifer Cooper, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Rancho Mesa Animal Hospital.
Puppies often have a lot of energy, explained Cooper. By socializing the dog and taking them to the parks it helps them loose that extra energy and reduce the risk of aggression at a older age.
“Prior to taking your dog to the park, I recommend ensuring the animal is fully vaccinated,” added Cooper.
With multiple dog parks in the MCAS Miramar vicinity, one Marine enjoys his weekends with Mickey, his 5-month-old dog.
“It’s great to get him out of the house,” said Lance Cpl. Matt J. Miller, an ordnance technician with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 11, Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. “I get to meet other dog owners and ask them advice.”
A few local dog parks include the Poway dog park, Kearny Mesa Community Park, Balboa Park and Fiesta Island.
